Clare SF Representative Condemns Extradition Of Clare Man On Troubles Murder Charges

A Clare Sinn Féin representative has condemned the extradition of Clare man to face murder charges in the North from almost 50 years ago.

John Downey of Creeslough in Donegal, who is originally from St Joseph’s Terrace in Kilrush, has been charged in connection with the murder of two British soldiers who died in a car bomb explosion in 1972.

He has been remanded in custody to appear in court again next Friday but Sinn Féin’s Noeleen Moran insists republicans should not be prosecuted for conflict-related matters, which she feels undermines the Good Friday Agreement.
