Kilrush District Court has heard that a 32-year-old Polish man who has been charged with assault arising out of an incident in Miltown Malbay on Sunday could face more serious charges.
Patrick Kolodziej of Coor East, Doonogan is facing charges relating to an alleged assault on another Polish man, Marcin Jeziorny at their home and in connection with a fire at the property.
One of the charges is an assault causing harm to his fellow Pole, but Gardaí say the assault charge could be upgraded to a more serious offence, while more charges are anticipated in relation to the discovery of 150 cannabis plants in the attic of the house.
Mr. Kolodziej was described as "a real flight risk" in court and Judge Patrick Durcan refused an application for bail – the case is due before the court in Ennis again today.
