The Chair of Clare’s Joint Policing Committee says the rate of shoplifting in Clare is now ‘a scandal’.
It’s after the Commitee heard this week that thefts from shops in the county more than doubled between January and April.
Burglaries across Clare also went up by 90 percent in the same timeframe, with many crimes being described as ‘opportunist’ by Clare’s Chief Superintendent.
