Figures released to the Oireachtas following a parliamentary question tabled by Clare Independent TD Michael McNamara show there are 50 Garda vehicles available for use in this county.

36 cars are available for Gardai in the Clare Garda Division, along with 11 vans, two motorcycles and one 4×4 vehicle.

It’s the lowest number recorded out of the country’s 29 divisions according to the Minister for Justice, with the Sligo-Leitrim division the next lowest, having 57 vehicles at their disposal.

However, the Tipperary division has 77 vehicles registered to it, with that division set to be combined with Clare shortly under new reform plans.

The number of vehicles available in Clare has fallen by six since 2018, with the county having lost three cars and two vans in that time.

The issue of Garda resources is likely to be raised once more when this county’s Joint Policing Committee gathers in Áras Contae an Chláir to meet next week.
