The Garda Commissioner insists the ongoing investigation into eight Gardai in Limerick as part of a ‘corruption’ probe is ‘essential’ for public confidence in the force.

Clare Fianna Fail Deputy Cathal Crowe called on Commissioner Drew Harris to ‘speed up’ the investigation during his attendance at this county’s joint policing committee meeting this week.

The eight Gardai are suspended since November 2020 due to the alleged ‘squaring away’ of road traffic offences, but so far no charges have been brought to any of them.

Commissioner Harris says though he understands the frustration with the slow pace of the investigation, it’s being dealt with as quickly as possible.
