Clare Has Third Smallest Roads Policing Unit Outside Of Dublin Metropolitan Region

Fear has been expressed that Clare’s roads policing deficit will render any speed limit reductions completely ineffective.

New figures show that with just eighteen personnel, this county has the third smallest unit outside of the Dublin Metropolitan Region.

This is despite Clare having the eight largest national road network in the country at a distance of 232.7km.

With a 23% increase in road fatalities in the last year, the government is aiming to reduce limits on rural roads from 80 to 60km/h, however Aontú MidWest PRO Eric Nelligan believes the measure won’t be enforceable here.
