Clare Government TD Says Garda Policing Model On ‘A Rat Race’ To Creating ‘Bad Will’ In Community

A Clare Government TD believes the policing model of An Garda Siochana is headed on a ‘rat race’ and is creating ‘bad will’ within the community.

Deputies have been debating a new bill that looks to roll out a new operations model for the force and a smaller number of Garda divisions, including a proposed merger between Clare and Tipperary.

Garda Commissioner Drew Harris, who is due to attend a meeting of Clare’s Joint Policing Committee next month, insists the new look model would increase Garda visibility and provide more resources on the frontline.

However, Clare Fianna Fail Deputy Cathal Crowe believes Commissioner Harris’ vision may remove the right for Gardai to use discretion in their work.
