Clare’s Garda Division has the lowest number of vehicles out of all 29 divisions in the State.

This county also has one of the lowest number of cars operating on the roads.

Figures released by Justice Minister Helen McEntee following a parliamentary question from Sinn Fein Deputy Martin Kenny shows 50 vehicles are currently operating in the Clare Garda Division.

That’s the lowest number of all 29 divisions, with Sligo-Leitrim the next lowest at 56 vehicles and the Roscommon-Longford division having 59 on the road.

36 of Clare’s Garda vehicles are cars, which is a number that’s only lower in the Dublin Metropolitan Region’s traffic division, which has 19 cars.

Clare GardaĆ have 11 vans at their disposal, along with 2 motorcycles and one 4×4 – some divisions have as many as 7.

Minister McEntee, in a written response contextualising the figures, says the allocation of resources is a matter for Garda Commissioner Drew Harris.

It’s possible though that this may spark fresh concerns about whether GardaĆ in this county have sufficient resources to carry out their powers, as has previously been expressed at meetings of Clare’s Joint Policing Committee.
