“Please Don’t Panic” About Monkeypox Says Clare Infectious Diseases Expert

A Clare native Infectious Diseases expert is hopeful that the Monkeypox virus can be eradicated.

The World Health Organisation’s revealed the number of confirmed monkeypox cases has risen to 131, with a further 106 suspected infections in 19 countries.

In the UK, 57 people are known to have the viral disease.



The HSE has set up a special team to prepare for possible cases here, but Sixmilebridge native Professor James McInerney is urging people not to panic.

The former Head of the School of Life Scientists at the University of Nottingham says there’s no indication it’s giong to become suddenly very common.
