Plans Unveiled For 39-Unit Affordable Housing Development At Francis Street

The first plans for an affordable housing development in Clare have been unveiled.

The proposal would consist of 39 apartments varying in size on Francis Street in Ennis.

The project is approved for funding from the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government and forms a key part of Clare County Councils Housing Strategy to deliver new build homes in Ennis.

The thirty-nine apartments would comprise of 6 x 1 bed units ,10 x 2-bed units 19 x 2 bed Duplex apartments and 4 x 3 bed apartments.

It’s envisaged the development will have a total capacity for 148 persons.

Situated on a 0.41 hectare site , a design statement completed by Mola Architecture shows that the build would entail a four-storey block facing Francis Street and a three-storey block facing Causeway Link.

A demolition survey conducted by Frank Higgins Ardrahan LTD detected the presence of Asbestos on the roof slates of three of the existing six cottages on Francis Street, where removal will be required before demolition can commence.

Additionally An appropriate assessment and Environmental Impact report have each been examined and determined “no real likelihood of significant effects on the environment arising from the proposed development.”

While Uisce Eireann has confirmed that water and wastewater connections are feasible for the site and A formal connection application will be submitted to the utility in due course.

Clare County Council intends to begin construction of the project within the next eight weeks.
