In April of last year, Clare County Councillors agreed to sell a 1.3 acre site at Illaunumanagh to businessman Jim Cranwell.

A fee of 140 thousand euro had been agreed, and planning permission had already been secured, but local residents subsequently raised objections.

Now, at a special meeting on the issue, Shannon Councillors have voted to withdraw the site for sale, though their decision needs to get the backing of a full Council meeting in the coming months.

Chairman of the Shannon Municipal District PJ Ryan says it's not known why the development hasn't gone ahead.
