Urban Green Private Shannon SC Limited, which is the firm responsible for the management of the Shannon Town Centre, has stated its student accommodation venture in Phoenix House would consist of 95 bed spaces.

In addition to ancillary common rooms, laundry facilities, toilets and waste storage, the development would involve the creation of 95 bike parking spaces outside the building.

The applicant is also seeking permission from Clare County Council for “minor internal demolition and all associated site development works”.

Originally built as the headquarters of Shannon Development, the building has most recently been in use as a Ukrainian accommodation centre, housing roughly 70 Ukrainians for a period of two years.

In June 2024, the Department of Integration ended its contract with the provider over “issues raised during a site visit”.
