Plans For Future Of Holy Island To Be Outlined Today

Plans for the future of Holy Island will be outlined at an event in Mountshannon this evening.

Clare County Council purchased a significant portion of the historical Lough Derg island last year, bringing it under full public ownership for the first time.

It's now preparing a Visitor Management and Sustainable Tourism Development Plan for the site, and is looking to improve access to the island and to provide tourism facilities on or near it.

Lead architect Brian O'Brien of Solearth Arcitechture has been appointed to the project, and plans will be discussed with tourism and community representatives at Mountshannon Childcare Centre from 5:30 tonight.
