The local authority here in Clare received a total of 1,076 planning applications last year.

That’s an increase of 70, or 7% when compared with the year before, and the highest figure recorded since 2010.

It’s still a long way short of the peak of the Celtic Tiger era, however, when Clare County Council was receiving around 3,000 planning applications a year.

The figure covers a range of application types, including one-off housing, commercial developments and planning retention, but this growth is a positive indicator for the local construction sector.

Last year also saw a total of 285 pre-planning applications.
