The 10-year planning permission application was submitted by planning consultancy firm Turley on behalf of its client Uisce Éireann on January 3rd.

The 4.56 hectare development would consist of a new wastewater treatment plant, a foul pumping station and the installation of new sewers.

The application also includes all associated site excavation as well as infrastructural and development works above and below ground.

Construction would take place on two separate sites in the townlands of Kilkee Lower and Foohagh, Kilkee.

The first of these, known as Subject Site A, is located near residential dwellings at Victoria Park while Subject Site B is situated beside agricultural land off the Dunlicky Road.

The latter site also includes a section of the Dunlicky Road within the Foohagh townland.

The lands within each site are privately-owned and therefore are to be acquired by Compulsory Purchase Order.

The application states however that Uisce Éireann will “continue to engage with landowners to endeavour to acquire the land by agreement”.
