Planned industrial action by water services staff at Clare County Council has been suspended.
SIPTU has confirmed to the local authority that it is suspending notice of industrial action, as both parties have agreed to extend the consultation period by a further four weeks.
A dispute erupted after the local authority sought to separate water and wastewater services.
Staff believe this contradicts a Labour Court recommendation, saying it would result in staff movement and changes in work practices.
Fears have been expressed that strike action would lead to further water outages in the county but SIPTU’s Sector Organiser for Local Authorities, Brendan O’Brien hopes that can now be avoided:
