Children's Minister Charlie Flanagan has made the comments in the Seanad, after he was told of the case of a 15-year-old North Clare girl who has been waiting for treatment for five years.

Despite outlining progress that has been made in the area, Minister Flanagan acknowledged that delays in treatment do result in anxiety and suffering.

He's hopeful that a scheme currently being trialled elsewhere in the country will have a positive effect when introduced here.
