Renowned traditional Irish musician Sharon Shannon, who hails from Clare, but is based in Galway has influenced a generation of musicians.
With over 10 multi-award winning albums, she has received many awards including Hot Press and Meteor Awards, and was the youngest ever recipient of the Meteor Lifetime Achievement Award.
Today she was conferred with an Honorary Doctor of Music at NUI Galway.
Following the ceremony Sharon was joined by The Shannon Family to perform for over 300 people in the conferring hall.
Sharon’s father, 90-year-old IJ Shannon, also attended the ceremony along with her brother Gary and sisters Mary and Majella.
