Person Airlifted To Hospital Following Road Traffic Collision In North Clare

One person has been airlifted to hospital following a road traffic collision in North Clare this afternoon.

The incident, which involved a car and a motorcycle, occurred around 1.30pm on the R460 Gort to Corofin Road at Rockvale near Tubber close to the Clare border with Galway.

Emergency services from both counties responded to the scene.

Gardaí attended the incident while the National Ambulance Service dispatched an ambulance and an advanced paramedic response vehicle. Units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Ennis station and Galway Fire and Rescue Service crews based in Gort also responded to the scene.

The HSE’s Cork-based Emergency Aeromedical Service (EAS) air ambulance, Aeromed-01, was also requested to attend the incident.

It’s understood that the motorcyclist suffered serious injuries in the collision while the occupants of the car escaped unhurt.

The male casualty was assessed and treated at the scene before being transferred to the helicopter which was able to land close by.

He was later airlifted to University Hospital Galway for treatment.

Gardaí are investigating the circumstances of the collision.
