Clare County Council has given the green light for a 20m telecoms tower in North Clare.
Towercom Ltd have been granted permission to erect the structure in order to boost coverage for Éir customers in Carron.
In their application to Clare County Council, Towercom outline Éir’s need for an additional site in Carron in order to meet their licencing requirements and to continue the rollout of their 4G and 5G network.
The telecoms company highlights ‘a clear deficiency of 4G coverage’ to the east of Carron, which it says is an inequality in comparison to the area west of the chosen site, which includes the town itself and its outskirts.
The application cites an absence of 5G coverage in the area, which Towercom says is impacting people’s ability to work from home.
The cover letter addressed to Clare County Council warns that it’s essential that Carron benefits from ‘very good’ 4G and 5G coverage in order that St. Cronin’s National School has the capacity to offer the best ICT facilites for its students.
The site will be located on the grounds of an existing Éir exchange in Carron.
Clare County Council granted permission for the tower to progress subject to six conditions.
