People Urged To Drive With Care Following Five Road Deaths This Weekend

Five people have died on the roads since Friday evening.

The latest was a 68 year old man who was killed last night in a hit and run in Co Tipperary.

There’s been 7 deaths in 7 days on our roads – including 4 motorcyclists.

The latest victim was a 68 year old man, who was hit by a car in Thurles at around 20 past 10 last night.

The driver fled the scene – and Inspector Padraic Powell of Thurles Garda Station is appealing for witnesses to the incident which happened near Glengoole.

A six year old boy died in hospital yesterday after being knocked down on Friday evening.

While three motorcyclists were killed on Saturday night in separate crashes in Limerick and Dublin.

So far in July 16 people have lost their lives on the roads – which is actually down on the same month last year.

But Brian Farrell from the Road Safety Authority is urging people to be careful as the Bank Holiday weekend approaches.

So far this year 93 people have lost their lives on the road.

It all comes ahead of the traditionally treacherous bank holiday weekend
