The HSE is advising patients to consider alternative care options before presenting at University Hospital Limerick’s Emergency Department.
With 138 waiting for a bed at the facility this morning, HSE Midwest says it’s “working to ensure that care is prioritised for the sickest patients”, and has stated that those who are seriously ill or injured will continue to be treated as a priority.
Patients are being encouraged to attend the Injury Units and Ennis, Nenagh and St. John’s which are open from 8am to 8pm each days, as well as the Medical Assessment Units at Ennis and Nenagh which have recently expanded operations to 16 hours a daily from 8am to midnight.
Face masks are now mandatory at the Dooradoyle facility due to high levels of flu in recent weeks, and the HSE is urging visitors at all facilities in the region to wear a face mask to protect themselves and others.
