The Special Criminal Court has heard Garryowen rugby player Shane Geoghegan was shot 5 times in the head and body at a housing estate in Limerick.
31 year old John Dundon with an address at Hyde Road is accused of ordering the murder which took place at the Clonmore Estate, Kilteragh in the early hours of November 9th, 2008.
State Pathologist Prof Marie Cassidy has told the non-jury court that Shane Geoghegan was shot 5 times.
Bullets entered the back of his head, his left shoulder, right back, upper arm and across his abdomen.
Prof Cassidy said he was attacked going through the Clonmore Estate and ran down the side of a house where his body was found outside patio doors at the back.
When she arrived at the scene she said there was a pool of blood under his head and his clothes were heavily bloodstained.
She has told the court he would have died rapidly from the gunshot wound to the brain. One of the wounds could have been inflicted when he was bending down facing the gunman.
John Dundon is accused of ordering a killing that led to the Garryowen rugby player being shot in a case of mistaken identity.
