The Cubana flight was en route to Havana from Madrid when it was diverted to Shannon late last night, with between 250 to 300 passengers believed to be on board.
It's reported they spent five hours in the aircraft on the tarmac before being allowed to disembark.
It's believed a technical issue occured which led to the long delay.
The airport distributed food vouchers to those affected and it's expected they will depart at 4pm this afternoon.
