The latest Credit Union Back to School Costs survey indicates that 13 per cent of parents will have to sacrifice spending on food in the run up to the new school year.
Around a third of parents find themselves in debt trying to prepare their children for school and will borrow an average of 357 euro.
60 per cent of parents will shop online for back to school items, a significant increase from 47 per cent in 2015.
