The Dail’s Public Accounts Committee will examine the cancellation of penalty points by members of the Gardai today.

It comes after a whistle-blower alleged inappropriate cancellation of points for motoring offences by up to 200 gardai.
The Garda Commissioner, Martin Callinan, is expected to dismiss allegations of rampant abuse.
He’ll face questions on why some Garda stations cancel more notices than others – and why fines aren’t paid for three out of every ten motoring offences.
