The latest figures from the INMO show 55 people were left waiting for beds at the region’s main hospital this morning, 31 of those in the emergency department.

They’re among 555 patients across the country who are waiting on admission today, with Dooradoyle the busiest in the country once again.

Measures to tackle hospital overcrowding will top the agenda at a meeting of the Emergency Department Taskforce today, which will consider both short term and long term responses to the problem.

INMO’s Midwest Representative, Mary Fogarty believes the implementation of an already agreed framework could be the key to reducing overcrowding in Dooradoyle.

Services are being stretched by an outbreak of the flu at the moment.

Kevin Kelleher from the HSE expects the virus to hit a high soon.

Meanwhile, the Irish Medical Organisation says the HSE has confirmed that all interns will be paid for all hours worked.

The two organisations met this morning after a memo was issued to doctors in Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown stating that they would not be paid for overtime.
