Over two million euro in local property tax collected from Clare homeowners this year will be spent on services in other counties.

The Department of Local Government expects the tax to yield 10 million euro here – 20% of that will go into an equalisation fund, but Clare will derive no income from this.
The figures mark a continuation of the system that has been in place in recent years, which will allow Councillors the option of reducing the tax by up to 15%. That decision will be made at a meeting in September.
Lisseycasey Fianna Fáil Councillor PJ Kelly believes two million euro would go a long way towards solving many of the county's problems.
