Over €20M In Vacant And Derelict Housing Grants Approved In Clare

Over €20m worth of vacant and derelict property refurbishment grants have now been approved in Clare.

New figures from the local authority show the vast majority of successful applicants are from the west of the county.

To date 338 applications from Clare people have been approved under the Vacant Property Refurbishment Scheme, marking 65% of the total, meaning at least 112 have been refused.

Under the programme, grants of €50,000 are available for vacant homes , rising to €70,000 for derelict dwellings.

The properties must be built before 2008 and be unoccupied for at least two years, while successful applicants only have 13 months to complete their works.

To date, 119 grants have been approved in the Kilrush Electoral Area , accounting for 36% of the total and represents a potential investment of €7.3m.

67 grants have been approved in North Clare to a value of over €4m, 53 have been approved in Ennis worth €3m, while over €3.6m in grants have been approved in Killaloe and over €2m worth have been approved in Shannon.

Representing a total potential investment of over €20m for the county.
