Lyndsey Walsh has outlined the support and comfort Sláinte An Cháir has given her through one of the most difficult periods of her life, since she was first diagnosed with cancer in 2011.

During her treatment, Lyndsey was able to avail of Reflexology, Counselling and Meditation services, just few of the many vital supports the facility has provided to patients and family members since it was founded by Mary Hewson in 2010.

Ennis Lions Club President David Goodstein has first-hand experience of the impact a cancer diagnosis has on a family and says the decision to support Sláinte An Chláir this year was a no-brainer.

Sláinte An Chláir is an entirely voluntary organisation and receives no funding from the HSE or Department of Health.

In spite of the challenges, the service has provided vital relief to thousands of Clare people since opening its doors.
Among the entirely free of charge services it provides are transport and assistance with hospital appointments and for Radiotherapy & Chemotherapy treatments.

Cancer Rehabilitation, Lymphoedema Management, Peer support groups and bereavement counselling is also readily available, along with morale building arts and crafts courses.

Marie Phelan is an Ovarian Cancer Survivor and now Treasurer of the Organisation, she says that from knitting lessons to transport and everything in the between, the supports offered are invaluable.

When the curtain finally came down and the gavels rested after bidding took place on 208 generously donated items from local businesses, the eagerly anticipated funding total was revealed.

All told, €20,895 has been raised from the Clare FM – Ennis Lions Club Radio Auction to support Sláinte An Chláir in providing its essential services.
