Over 9,000 Clare patients are believed to have already stayed overnight at the MidWest Region’s main hospital this year.
The finding is based on previous HSE data, which indicates that one in four patients presenting at University Hospital Limerick originate from this county.

In the first two months of the year, almost 38,000 people were admitted to inpatient beds at UHL, equating to 158 patients from Clare every day.
Friends of Ennis Hospital Chairperson Angela Coll says the HSE needs to source step-down beds in the short term.
