The Egyptian parliament will convene an emergency meeting today, after violence at a soccer match in the city of Port Said killed more than 70 people yesterday.
Around 300 other people were injured when fans invaded the pitch, seconds after the game between between two of the country’s top teams
They threw rocks, bottles and fireworks and even attacked players while gunfire was also reported on the main road leading to Port Said from Cairo, and troops were deployed to prevent further clashes.
Egyptian Islamists are blaming supporters of Former President Hosni Mubarak for the deadly violence.
Local reporters say many people believe it was organised.
