Over 40% Clare householders yet to pay charge

Clare homeowners have contributed over 2.75 million euro to the state as a result of the household charge, even though two-in-five of those liable have yet to pay the fee.

Newly released figures also show over 1,000 homeowners have paid the charge since penalties began to be enforced following the March 31st deadline.

In all, the charge has been paid for 27,408 Clare homes, while waivers have been granted for a further 354.

Government has estimated that almost 46,000 Clare homeowners are liable for the charge, meaning the county’s compliance rate stands at just under 60%.
