Over 200 Patients Being Treated In ED At Region’s Main Hospital Daily

Over 200 patients per day have been receiving medical care in the Emergency Department of the region's main hospital this week.

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation has expressed grave concerns about the safety of patients at University Hospital Limerick with some people waiting up to eighteen hours for a bed on one day this week.

The CEO of UL Hospitals Group admits there has been a 2.8 per cent rise in the numbers of people attending the facility on this time last year, due partly to a rise in the number of seriously ill patients and elderly attending.

Colette Cowan has refuted claims that the ED is unsafe and insists staff are doing everything in their power to discharge patients in order to reduce waiting times.
