Over 1,700 inpatient appointments and planned procedures were suspended across Ennis General Hospital and University Hospital Limerick in December.
The latest figures from the National Treatment Purchase Fund also show that over 30,000 patients remained on waiting lists at both hospitals at the end of the month.
The majority were waiting for adult outpatient appointments at University Hospital Limerick, with 21,397 service users on the list in total.
Dermatology remained the most in-demand discipline there, with 350 patients waiting over 18 months for an appointment.
Of the 2,613 adults on inpatient waiting lists at UHL, 985 are awaiting a consultant for treatment of eye disorders.
Also at the hospital over 4,500 children are on waiting lists.
At Ennis General, a combined total of 1,665 adults were on inpatient and outpatient waiting lists at the end of December.
Of those, 884 were waiting for Cardiology services, with over 220 waiting longer than twelve months, which is up 10% on November’s waiting list.
According to the National Treatment Purchase Fund, 1,467 inpatient appointments and 42 planned procedures were suspended at UHL in December, broadly in line with it’s monthly figures year round.
While in Ennis, 265 inpatient appointments and 46 planned procedures were suspended, a monthly increase of 22%.
