Clare’s County Dog Warden has expressed outrage after a litter of young puppies was discovered abandoned at a popular walking trail in Ennis.
The pups were found earlier this week at John O’Sullivan Park, Lees Road, where a woman out for a walk heard crying coming from a wooded area and when she went to investigate, discovered the puppies left inside a crate.
The woman brought the distressed animals home overnight to keep them safe before contacting the County Dog Warden who has since brought them to a local vet for assessment and care.
The puppies are now being transferred to an animal welfare charity, where they’ll receive further treatment and be prepared for rehoming.
County Dog Warden Frankie Coote has described the incident as “an awful thing to do,” which could have ultimately resulted in the puppies dying.
