The outgoing Mayor of Clare claims he’ll help bring Liam McCarthy home once again, if re-elected the county’s first citizen in the years to come.
Fianna Fáil Councillor Alan O’Callaghan, who began his term by welcoming home the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Champions last year will hand over the chains of office this afternoon, after what he’s described as a positive and eventful 12 months.
He’ll be succeeded by Clarecastle Fine Gael Councillor Paul Murphy, with Ennis Fianna Fáil Councillor Clare Colleran Molloy to be appointed Leas Cathaoirleach at an official ceremony at Áras Contae an Chláir this afternoon.
During his term of office, Councillor Alan O’Callaghan witnessed the opening of the historic Shannon Bridge Crossing, a well as the opening of the new Ennis Library, while he also hosted a number of civic receptions and represented Clare stateside in Milwaukee and New York.
The Kilmurry Councillor says it was a year of highs, lows and change within the overall local authority structure.
