Five patients at University Hospital Limerick have been diagnosed with the infection, while health officials say there are a further seven suspected cases.
A total ban on visiting has been placed on wards 3A, 3C and 3D – restrictions are also in place on ward 3B though it’s hoped that will re-open to visitors later this evening.
The HSE says all appropriate infection control measures are being taken to deal with the situation and asks the public to co-operate fully with the advice and instruction of staff.
