O’Sullivan Appointed As Full-Time Garda Commissioner

Noirín O'Sullivan's appointment as the permanent Commissioner of An Garda Siochána has been described as a good move for Garda morale.

Ms O'Sullivan, the first female Garda Commissioner, takes the role full-time having previously replaced Martin Callinan on an interim basis.

Following his resignation, there had been calls for an external appointment but Clare Fine Gael Senator Martin Conway, his party's Seanad Justice Spokesperson, thinks this is the right move.
