The Office of Public Works has confirmed the presence of pyrite in a building in its ownership in Clare.
Minister of State Patrick O’ Donovan has confirmed to Clare Fine Gael TD Joe Carey that confirmation of the presence of the mineral was obtained following a routine inspection earlier this year.

It’s understood that further in-depth testing is currently underway to determine the extent of pyrite present, though the building is believed to be safe to occupy according to professional advice.
Deputy Carey says it’s further evidence that the Defective Concrete Blocks Scheme needs to be extended to Clare as quickly as possible.
