The popular boards were removed from Newfoundout in 2014 after they were damaged and while local fundraising saw new ones purchased last year, they weren't installed, as it wasn't possible to get certification for outdoor use.

In a statement to Clare FM, the Environment Section of Clare County Council says it's engaging with specialist marine consultants to try and find a speedy solution.

In the meantime, the local authority has erected signs advising people against diving from the cliff edge or rocks due to health and safety concerns.

Chair of Loophead Tourism, Cillian Murphy fears a continuing delay will have a long term impact on the town.
