One person is undergoing treatment in hospital following a multi-vehicle collision on the M18 near Dromoland on Friday afternoon.
The incident, understood to involve several cars and a van, occurred at around 4.45pm in the northbound lanes of the motorway at Ballynacragga between junction 10 Newmarket on Fergus and junction 11 at Dromoland.
Units of the Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Shannon and Ennis stations responded to the incident along with multiple National Ambulance Service resources an Gardaí.
Fire crews later implemented an emergency traffic management system at junction 10 and diverted traffic off the motorway. A similar system was put in place at the scene to clear the traffic that had been held up following the collision.
Later, as a result of congestion at the interchange at junction 10 and through Newmarket on Fergus, traffic was diverted off the route at junction 9 at Shannon.
It’s understood that at least one person, a woman in her 30s, has been transported to University Hospital Limerick for treatment. It’s believed she was a passenger in one of the cars.
Once all the vehicles were removed from the scene and debris cleared from the road, the M18 was fully reopened at around 6.10pm.
