Olympic Torch arrives in Republic

Thousands of people are expected to line the streets of Dublin this morning to see the Olympic Torch relay.

It arrived in The Republic at 6.30 this morning and was  symbolically passed between 1992 boxing medallists Wayne McCullough from Belfast and Dublin’s Michael Carruth at the border

The flame will be greeted in the capital by President Michael D Higgins and will pass through the hands of 40 torch-bearers, among them ports stars, celebrities and members of the community, one of them a Clare woman.

Ennis resident Pamela Lacken was nominated for her volunteer work with Special Olympics Ireland.  Speaking to Gavin Grace on Clare FM’s The Today Show, Pamela said she is looking forward to the occasion.
