The Olympic Council of Ireland says its holding its own independent inquiry into the ticketing arrangements for the Rio Olympics.
However it has failed to make any comment on reports that its President Pat Hickey has been denied bail in Brazil.
The Olympic Council of Ireland says it will cooperate fully with any State inquiry into its handling of ticketing arrangements for the Rio Olympics.
A statement issued this afternoon also claims that an internal inquiry announced by the group in the last week has been discontinued.
The inquiry had run into controversy after it refused the Sports Minister's requested to add an independent member to its panel.
That internal probe will now be replaced with an independent inquiry into the Rio ticketing scandal commissioned by the OCI.
The group has failed to mention however what's happening to its President Pat Hickey as reports suggested he's been denied bail in Brazil.
The 71-year-old was questioned by Brazilian police for several hours last night and it's thought he could be facing potential charges on ticket touting.
Here at home the Sports Minister Shane Ross is coming under increasing pressure to tackle the controversy and he's calling in the Attorney General to get an expert legal opinion.
Depending on what Minister Ross is told this afternoon there could be even more revelations in the Rio scandal to come.
