A Shannon-based former President Of Active Retirement Ireland says older people will be forced to cut back on spending this Christmas, due to the rising cost of living.
This is despite new research from Retail Ireland, which predicts spending will match last year’s figures, with households increasing their monthly budget by nearly 980 euro this Christmas.
Meanwhile, the Central Statistics Office has reported an almost nine per cent rise in the volume of sales in bars and pubs across the country.
But Active Retirement Ireland MidWest Region Representative, Kay Murphy, who’s based in Shannon says the rising cost of food and heating in particular is putting a lot of pressure on older age groups.
