Oireachtas Committee Holds Hearing On US Military’s Use Of Shannon Airport

An Oireachtas Committee which has been investigating the US military's use of Shannon Airport holds another hearing this afternoon.

The Oireachtas Petitions Committee has inteverviewed government ministers and paid a visit to Shannon as part of its investigation, which began when anti-war protestors submitted a petition calling for them to launch their proble.

The hearings have investigated whether Ireland's long-standing policy of neutrality has been breached by the decades-long situation at Shannon, which has seen it used for refuelling by American military aircraft.

Today the Committee members will examine those issues with Paddy Smyth, Foreign Policy Editor with the Irish Times and Dr Karen Devine of the School of Law and Government in DCU.
