Incidents of offences against government, justice procedures and organisation of crime have hit a 10-year high in Clare.
The latest data from the Central Statistics Office shows the number of recorded incidents of this nature has risen by almost 60% in the past year.
The CSO’s publication reveals theft and related offences was once again the most common type of crime committed in Clare from April to June of this year.
A total of 221 such incidents were recorded in the period in question which was 13% down on the same stretch of 2024, while shop theft rose by 4%, with 129 instances reported.
The statistics show that the rate of attempts or threats to murder, assaults, harassments and related offices has soared by 11%, while criminal damage is up 6% and public order and other social code offences are up 4%.
A striking finding of the report is that incidents of offences against government, justice procedures and organisation of crime have surged by 58%, with 76 recorded across the three-month period.
This is the highest figure for crimes of this category in Clare since the second quarter of 2015.
Incidents falling under the bracket of “other thefts” such as handling of stolen property are down 18% while damage to property and to the environment has seen a 3% decline, and there’s been a 1% reduction in disorderly conduct.
