A 72 year old serial rapist who walked free from court, having received a 3 year jail sentence, is back before the Central Criminal Court this morning.
Patrick O’Brien of Old Court Avenue, Bray is due back up before sentencing judge Mr Justice Paul Carney whose decision to grant bail to a convicted rapist has caused widespread public consternation
The 72 year old pleaded guilty to sample charges of rape and indecent assault of his daughter Fiona Doyle over a decade from 1973 to 1982.
He’s in very poor health and the judge suspended 9 years of a 12 years sentence.
The case is up for mention only – most likely to strike out any outstanding counts on the indictment.
However there is an expectation the DPP may make a seperate application – possibly about Patrick O’Brien’s bail or his appeal against his sentence.
