Nurses Fear UHL Will Lose Staff To Less Crowded Hospitals

Nurses have expressed fears that the region’s main hospital will continue to hemorrhage staff to less crowded facilities if steps aren't taken to improve the level of overcrowding there.

University Hospital Limerick has been the most overcrowded hospital in the country for two days this week and today 30 people are waiting for beds, 17 of those in the Emergency Department.

The INMO believes that even once the new Emergency Department comes online next year, trolley numbers won't decline unless an additional 100 beds are brought on-stream and staffing levels improve.

INMO Mid-West Representative Mary Fogarty says some hospitals have made the decision to curtail admissions in the short term until staffing levels stabilise.
