The results of a ballot of members of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation is due later this morning.
It comes amid growing frustration over what nurses say are "persistant" and "deepening" levels of overcrowding in Emergency Departments throughout the country.
The INMO says the ballot could lead to an all out strike in the lead up to Christmas, though the duration and location of stoppages has yet to be revealed.
